Poetry from Our Sources

with Carmi Soifer

“Words are sacred. They deserve respect.
If you get the right ones, in the right order,
you can nudge the world a little.”
— Tom Stoppard

Carmi Soifer, M.Ed.,
is an award-winning poet and writing teacher.

She brings decades of experience, care, and spirituality to her classes.

Carmi has taught  community workshops on both coasts, and was Artist-in-Residence at Rocky Mountain National Park.

She is eager to bring poetry to Sound Spirit.

Carmi’s acclaimed poetry class is offered again!

Would you like to bring out the poet in you, in a safe and caring environment?

Do you want to write from deep spirit, in a way that communicates your own truth?

Are you interested in stretching and learning through craft?

In this class, the emphasis is on fun. You’ll discover things you never thought you’d say, and ways you never thought to say them.

Through exercises and examples, we’ll build craft from our teachers, tune in to deep sources within, and learn to expand through our writing.  “Poetry from Our Sources” is appropriate for every level of
poet and would-be poet.

Self-Defense for Women

By Women

with Julia Forrester

We all have the ability to defend ourselves.
You don’t need to be large, nor do you need
to be in great physical condition.

Julia Forrester
is a senior Brown Belt, student, and instructor in the art of Ryo-shindo at the Tao-Zen Martial Arts Academy in Poulsbo.

She has taught martial arts to men and women of all ages for 6 years.

The techniques Julia teaches are simple, natural, immediate, and effective for anyone seeking a realistic command of basic introductory self defense. They are practical and easy-to-understand, and use as little energy as possible.

Confidence in your ability to defend yourself can even help you defuse a situation before it escalates.

The class is open to women of all ages, including girls over 8.

Leadership With Balance

Integrating Heart and Mind

with Amy Aspell

Are you a leader?

You may not think so, but you probably do influence others in their decisions.
You are indeed a leader.

Rev. Amy Aspell
is the Founder of the
Spiritual Wisdom Studio on Bainbridge Island, a center for teaching the Science of Mind and the creative process as the core aspect of our spirituality.

Rev. Amy’s former career in the arts encompassed work as a commission fiber artist, teaching, publishing and serving as Executive Director of the Ark Arts Council. She has been a licensed minister with International Centers for Spiritual Living since 1999 and has served churches in Idaho, California, and Washington.

What are differences between a boss and a leader? How does a leader get the authority to lead? What drives a leader?

This workshop focuses on a DVD presentation exploring the feminine strengths in leadership and seeking integration with masculine strengths for more balanced leadership.  Hear the perspective of feminine spiritual leaders, groups of women analyzing the pros and cons of leadership in their lives, and thoughts about the future for an integrated approach and its benefits.

Participate in a discussion after the film and a follow-up discussion two weeks later.  Both men and women are welcome.

When: Two Monday evenings
August 15 and 29
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Cost: $20 if registered by Aug. 10
